Prof Francesco Ciucci and his collaborators (Dr.Tomonori Honda and Dr. Maria C. Yang) from Ideation Laboratory of Massachusetts Institute of Technology received the Journal of Laboratory Automation Ten Award (JALA Ten 2013). This award is given by Society of Laboratory Automation for significant breakthrough across the intersection of automation, diagnostics, therapeutics, imaging, manufacturing, and beyond. Their research paper is titled "Optimizing Design Outcomes'.

The JALA Ten is an annual editorial feature that highlights 10 top technological breakthroughs across a spectrum of fields that include but is not limited to laboratory automation, drug discovery, drug screening, novel therapeutic strategies and delivery technologies, diagnostics, nanotechnology, nanomedicine, microtechnology as it relates to biology and medicine, novel characterization techniques, and more.
