Prof. Francesco CIUCCI Elected a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry
Prof. Francesco CIUCCI, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and Chemical & Biological Engineering, was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). The honor is conferred on individuals who have made major contributions to chemistry, including solid-state materials chemistry.
Prof. Ciucci’s current research centers on solid-state energy storage and conversion technologies. His group uses materials chemistry to design high-temperature reversible fuel cells and solid-state batteries. His research articles have been featured in major journals, including Nature Chemistry, Advanced Energy Materials, Chemistry of Materials, and Chemical Reviews.
He pursued his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology, US, where he was supported by the internationally renowned Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship. Before joining HKUST, he did his postdoctoral work at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing of the University of Heidelberg, Germany, where he received a Heidelberg Graduate School Fellowship and a Marie Curie Reintegration Grant from the European Union (2010-2013). Prior to his PhD, he graduated with a dual MSc degree in Engineering Science (~applied physics and applied mathematics) at Ecole Centrale Paris, France, and in Aerospace Engineering (cum laude) at Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
