Mr Lau Ming Wai Visited HKUST to Meet with Recipients of The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust Scholarships

President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Prof Tony F Chan hosted a gathering for Mr Lau Ming Wai, Chairman of Chinese Estates Holdings, and the recipients of The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust Scholarships at President’s Lodge today. The gathering was also joined by Dr Eden Woon, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement; Prof James Lee, Dean of Humanities and Social Science; Prof Jitendra V Singh, Dean of Business and Management; Prof Robert Ko, Associate Dean of Science; Prof Chi-Ying Tsui, Associate Dean of Engineering; Prof Kai-Lung Hui, Associate Dean of Business and Management; and Dr Tony Lam, Head of Scholarships and Financial Aid Office. 

It is the Scholarship program’s tradition of organizing a gathering once every year for donor to meet with Scholarship recipients. Mr Lau highly valued this tradition. At the gathering, he shared his experience and stories in meeting the youth from his public services, and invited the students to share their ideas and thoughts on enhancing their learning and exchange experience and Hong Kong’s education system. The recipients all took the opportunity to express their ideas. They also thanked Mr Lau in person for the support from the Trust.

The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust was established by Mr Joseph Lau, father of Mr Lau Ming Wai. The Trust donated to set up the The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust Scholarships in 2003 with the aims to attract the outstanding students to enroll in the undergraduate programs of HKUST, and to facilitate the nurturing of these outstanding students to become the future leaders of Hong Kong. Around 300 students have received the Scholarship since its launch.
