HKUST Receives Donation from Tin Ka Ping Foundation to Support Kids@UST Science and Mathematics Workshop
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received donations from the Tin Ka Ping Foundation (Foundation) in support of the Kids@UST Science and Mathematics Workshop. An opening ceremony was recently held on HKUST campus. Mr Sam Tin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, Dr Eden Y Woon, HKUST Vice President for Institutional Advancement, and Professor Lam-Lung Yeung, Program Director of Education Development Program of HKUST School of Science, officiated at the opening ceremony.
Tin Ka Ping Foundation is a long-standing supporter of HKUST. It is the University’s second year to receive support from the Foundation for organizing the Kids@UST Science and Mathematics Workshop for under-privileged primary school students. The Foundation has also generously donated to support the University’s development, and established the “Tin Ka Ping Visiting Fellowship” to promote exchange activities between HKUST and mainland universities and the “Tin Ka Ping Education Fund” to support the young talents from mainland China to assist professors at at HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study in research and teaching work.
Kids@UST Science and Mathematics Workshop is a popular science education program held by HKUST School of Science over the years. It is a one-day workshop designed by faculty members for primary students. The activities were on popular science and mathematics integrated with simple experiment with the aim to enhance students' motivation and interests in learning science. Participants were formed into small groups to work together under the guidance of HKUST students for the purpose of enhancing their communication and collaboration skills.
