HKUST Presents Long Service Awards

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held its third Long Service Award Presentation Ceremony honoring faculty and staff members who have served the University for 20 years.

HKUST established the Long Service Award to express appreciation and recognition to long-serving faculty and staff members whose hard work and dedication have contributed to the University’s rapid rise in the past two decades. This year, HKUST is presenting the Award to 237 members who joined the University in 1992.

HKUST President Prof Tony F Chan, Provost Prof Wei Shyy, Vice-President for Administration and Business Prof Yuk-shan Wong and Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies Prof Joseph Hun-wei Lee joined the deans, heads of departments and units in the presentation ceremony. The awardees’ families and friends were also invited by the University. About 400 persons shared the joy at the celebration.

Officiating at the Long Service Award presentation ceremony, Prof Chan told the gathering that talents are the cornerstone of a university’s success. In merely 20 years, HKUST has garnered international recognition on the strength of its excellent research and teaching, and the University owes its success to its staunch and loyal faculty and staff members. He praised them for their dedication and for being the living embodiment of the 1-HKUST concept which creates synergy among all disciplines and units, and urged them to sustain their commitment to excellence in driving society’s socioeconomic development.

Prof Yuk-shan Wong, Vice-President for Administration and Business stated that, with the annual Long Service Award, HKUST values and recognizes faculty and staff members who are the University’s most valuable assets. This award recognizes the unfailing contribution of its faculty and staff members since the University’s early days and further enhances their sense of belonging.
