香港科技大学协办首届IEEE科技领袖研讨会
香港科技大学联同国际电机电子工程师学会（IEEE）及香港应用科技研究院携手合办首届「IEEE科技领袖研讨会」。是次研讨会以「展望2020年的科技」為主题，探讨一系列对人类未来带来重要影响的前沿科技，除检视这些科技现时的发展情况，并展望未来的方向。
揭幕典礼於6月1日举行，主礼嘉宾包括香港特区政府财政司司长曾俊华先生、国际电机电子工程师学会会长GordonDay博士与研讨会筹备委员会联席主席及香港科技大学工学院院长李德富教授。科大工学院核心目标之一是為业界和社会提供具创新和创意的解决方案。透过举办是次研讨会，李德富教授希望能推动电机电子领域的策略性研究和发展。
香港科技大学校长陈繁昌教授在「环球研发领袖会议」上强调，香港拥有多所一流的高等学府，培育优秀人才，企业可以充份利用这个优势，成立研发实验室。根据刚发布的《2011年QS亚洲大学排名》（Quacquarelli Symonds （QS） Asian University Rankings），香港的叁所大学高佔首五名。陈繁昌校长提倡，工商界应与大学密切合作，激发更多创新意念。
「环球研发领袖会议」的主讲者包括A*Star Singapore董事总经理Teck Seng Low教授﹑瑞典爱立信研究主管JanFäjh先生，及美国Microsoft首席研究员Rico Malvar博士，他们互相分享在不同领域上的最新科研发展，包括无线通讯技术﹑生物医学﹑微型心血管压力感测器植入以至智能生活，及有机电子物质。
是次研讨会吸引了来自世界各地近200位电机电子专家参加，為期叁天的研讨会亦安排本港研究人员分享他们在香港多所大学的相关研究成果和应用。
