香港科技大学工程科技及计算机科学排名全港第一
香港科技大学（科大）於工程/科技及计算机科学领域中再获评选為全港第一。上海交通大学世界一流大学研究中心早前发表「2011年世界大学学术排名」(ARWU)，有关排名自2007年首次推出以来，科大在工程及相关领域一直保持领先地位。
科大工学院院长李德富教授说：「科大的工程学领域一直获工程界评价甚高，稳佔前列位置，关键在於教研人员及学生表现卓越。我们未来会继续努力，将科大发展成為吸引全球顶尖人才及学生的教育及科研中心。」
「2011年世界大学学术排名」中，科大在工程／科技及计算机科学於全球排名位列第36名，较去年的第39名上升3位;科大在过去一直躋身全球前40名。今年，科大的排名较国际顶级大学优胜，包括美国哈佛大学(第38名)、中国清华大学(第45名)、英国牛津大学(第46名)、美国哥伦比亚大学(第49名)及加州大学(尔湾分校）(第50名)。
「世界大学学术排名」以大学的科研成果和学术表现作主要指标，包括获诺贝尔奖和菲尔兹奖的校友和教师数目、各学科领域被引用次数最高的科学家数目、在《自然》（Nature）和《科学》（Science）期刊发表的论文数目、科学引文索引（SCIE）和社会科学引文索引（SSCI）收录的论文数量等。今年新增加两项评选指标，包括研究成果获首两成世界最高水平期刊刊登的百分比，以及工程研究的开支金额等。全球每年超过1,000间大学被评选，而主办单位则公佈表现最理想的500间大学名次。
此外，科大的计算机科学亦连续第二年获ARWU评為大中华地区的首位。计算机科学类别排名於2009公佈以来，科大表现一直理想，今年的位置由去年的第26名大幅跃升至第21名，排名创歷史新高。
