HKUST Robocon Team Won 1st Runner-Up in ABU Robocon 2015

The HKUST Robotics Team represented Hong Kong to compete in ABU Robocon on 23 Aug 2015 and won the 1st Runner-up, the best ever result of HKUST.

This year’s contest was hosted by Indonesia, with the theme of “Robominton”. Two robots, one with wireless and one with wired control, of a team cooperate with each other to play robots’ double badminton game with an opponent team. The HKUST Robotics Team has been the champion of the Robocon Hong Kong contest for five consecutive years since 2011.

The students are co-supervised by Prof Tim Woo, Director of the Center for Global & Community Engagement (GCE) and Associate Professor of Engineering Education, and Prof Shaojie Shen, Assistant Professor of Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering.

The ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) is an annual Asian Oceanian College robot competition founded by Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union. The contest aims to advance engineering and computing technologies in the region, strengthen exchanges and create friendship among young people with similar interests.
