The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) International ICT Expo 2019 was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from 13 – 16 April 2019. Six HKUST Start-ups joined the fair, showcasing their services and products at the Home-grown Innovations Zone. Featuring locally based companies, talent and expertise, the Zone aims to showcase new ideas and strategies created by educational institutions and professional associations that drive the city’s success.
Apart from showcasing their products and services at the exhibition, HKUST start-ups were highly recognised by the fair. iSTEM Limited (iSTEM), one of the HKUST start-ups funded by Technology Start-up Support Scheme for University (TSSSU), won the Champion award in the Hong Kong Value Creation for Technology Pitching Competition 2019. Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Angel Investment Fund, the pitching competition has been held for the last three years. Of more than 100 start-up exhibitors, only nine start-ups were admitted to the final round to compete for the championship. Reviewed by a team of veterans from the Angel Investment Fund, iSTEM stood out among the candidates by using AI and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies to promote science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education.
“At the expo, we have met with many users and stakeholders who have given us valuable feedback and networking opportunities.”, said Eagle and Eva, Co-Founders of iSTEM. Joined the ICT Expo for the second time, iSTEM is an EduTech which deploys AI, VR and gamification to enhance students’ engagement in learning. Currently, 30 primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong are using solutions from iSTEM. They are expecting further collaborations from schools.
